The members of the Election Commission (EC) met Chief Secretaries, Director General of Police (DGP) and Home Secretaries of different states on Thursday to discuss the availability of state police forces for upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Earlier, the Election Commission had organised a two-day conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of each state and they were asked to present their preparations on the general elections in their respective states.

Later a detailed report was also collected from the CEOs.

The Deputy Election Commissioner Alok Sukla is also expected to arrive in New Delhi on February 22 to take stock of the preparatory works for the forthcoming elections.

The Deputy Election Commissioner would collect detail reports from Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police about the state's preparation for the same.

Reportedly, the ECI is expected to announce the election schedules and issue due notification for the Lok Sabha elections after these meetings.

The term of the current Lok Sabha expires on June 1 and the new House has to be constituted by May 31.

Reportedly, 80 crore voters will be eligible to vote in the coming elections after new voters have been added to the rolls, whose final revision is underway.
