Encounter breaks out between army, militants in Kupwara

The operation was launched following information about the presence of militants in the area

An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in forest area of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, the army said here.

Security forces launched an anti-militancy operation in the forest area of Kupwara this morning following information about the presence of militants in the area, an army official said.

He said some gunshots were exchanged at the start of the operation which was continuing when the last reports were received.
