The district administration has finally taken steps in direction of cleaning Khan River in Indore by initiating the first phase of encroachment survey and demarcation of the river in Indore, said officials.

In the first phase, the demarcation of the river will be done from MR 10 to Chhatripura. which is likely to get completed by the end of this month.

The demarcation and survey is the first step in cleaning the river to identify encroachment on both sides of the river bank, said officials.

Recently, the district administration had a meeting in this regard at the Indore Collectorate to prepare a road map for the river cleaning project.

Officers of Indore Development Authority, Indore Municipal Corporation and district administration were present during the meeting.

"The encroachment includes both slums and other structures. Soon, steps would be taken to remove encroachment from the river bank," informed an official.

The Khan River is a major river in the region but it got highly polluted due to disposal of sewage water and garbage into it.

Last month, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) questioned the slow work of the river cleaning project and asked the Indore civic body to speed up the work and chalk out a monthly plan.

District administration officials feel that completion of demarcation and survey will boost the speed of the work.
