Over one lakh people performed yoga together in Haryana's Faridabad to mark the International Day of Yoga on Tuesday setting a new world record, said organisers.
"Over one lakh persons from Haryana on Tuesday set a new world record by performing yoga together at a district-level function organised in Faridabad on the occasion of 'International Yoga Day'," a Haryana government spokesman said in Chandigarh.
The yoga event was held under the supervision of yoga guru Ramdev and was attended by Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah and Union Minister Krishan Pal.
Shah said that the enthusiasm shown by a large number of people towards yoga indicated the success of the campaign to promote this ancient practice.
"With the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, people in 170 countries have adopted yoga as a part of their lives and today and International Yoga Day is being celebrated in 193 countries," he said.
Faridabad, a bustling industrial and commercial city, is adjoining the national capital, New Delhi.
