Narendra Singh Tomar, Piyush Goyal meet Amit Shah to discuss farmers' issues

Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Piyush Goyal held a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the latter's residence here, to discuss the issues related to ongoing farmers' agitation on Wednesday. Yesterday, Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Piyush Goyal held a meeting with farmers' leaders at Krishi Bhawan, after holding a meeting with 32 representatives of protesting farmers at Vigyan Bhawan.

After the meeting, Tomar said that the discussion with representatives of protesting farmers was "good" and the fourth round of talks will be held on December 3. The Minister told reporters after Tuesday's talks that the government was keen on a group being formed but farmers' leaders wanted that the talks should be held with everyone.

The farmers are protesting against The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

LIVE: Farmers continue peaceful protest at Tikri border

As the protests entered the seventh day, the farmers from Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday continued to protest peacefully at the Delhi-Haryana Tikri border. Thousands of farmers have camped at the Tikri border to protest against the controversial farm laws passed by Parliament in September this year. The leaders were continuously addressing the fellow farmers on their grievances, demands and expectations from the government.

The farmers prepared their own food and distributed it among themselves.

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi put up a stall at the Tikri border to serve food to the farmers. Besides the AAP, many other organisations also have come out in their support, providing them with prepared food and milk. In view of the farmers' agitation, the Delhi Police have made adequate arrangements at the Delhi-Haryana border. The police have barricaded the streets with the Vajra Vahan, water cannons and the JCB machines.

Farm laws: Congress workers try to march to Haryana CM's home, face water cannons

Police used water cannons Wednesday as Punjab Youth Congress workers jumped barricades trying to march to Haryana Chief Minister M L Khattar's home here, protesting over the new farm laws. Police later took several activists into preventive custody. The protesters said they planned to 'gherao' Khattar's official residence, according to Chandigarh Police.

A Youth Congress worker said they were protesting against the Khattar government for stopping thousands of farmers while they were taking part in their Delhi Chalo march, and using water cannons and tear gas against them.

The Chandigarh Police first used water cannons against the Congress workers at barricades set up about three kilometers ahead of Khattar's official residence. But some activists managed to reach closer to the CM's home after jumping over police barricades. Again, water cannons were used to stop them. There was a strong police deployment near Khattar's residence.

Farmers stir gathers steam as more protestors converge on Delhi borders

The number of protesting farmers swelled at Delhi border points on Wednesday as police stepped up security after thousands blocked key gateways into the national capital for the seventh day on the trot, leaving commuters to face a harrowing time. The Chilla border on Noida link road is closed for traffic due to farmers' protests near Gautam Budh Dwar. People are advised to avoid Noida link road for going to Noida and use NH 24 and DND instead, the traffic police tweeted.

At the Chilla Border which connects Delhi with Noida, more farmers from Firozabad, Meerut, Noida and Etawah started gathering, prompting the authorities to close the key road stretch for the second consecutive day. The protestors at the Delhi-Noida border belong to various districts of western Uttar Pradesh and want to reach the national capital to join the bigger stir launched by the farmers of Punjab and Haryana against the Centre's new agriculture reform laws.
