Even as the summer internship placements are scheduled for later half of the year, a fire broke out in the placement office of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) on Friday.

According to an official communique from the institute, while the Placement Office premises suffered extensive damage, there were no reported injuries. The fire broke out on Friday, June 21, 2013 at around 2 AM.

The primary cause of fire seems to be a short circuit in the air conditioning unit. However, fire brigade personnel were informed and the fire was brought under control.

"We are currently in the process of assessing the loss from the fire. However, we do not anticipate any adverse impact on the next major placement activity i.e. summer internship placements scheduled during the later half of the year," the institute stated.
