Filling of a single form by fishermen is now sufficient for securing subsidies or assistance from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) as against submission of 42 different forms earlier.
"Now everything has been simplified by introducing one form for all and processing of every application within just two weeks," NFDB chief executive, MV Rao, told mediapersons on Friday.
Rao said the most common assistance sought by fishermen from NFDB was for purchasing vehicles for transportation of fish. So far, the board has given 1,150 vehicles for fishermen and their societies involving an amount of Rs 11 crore.
This apart, he said, the board had spent Rs 250 crore on modernisation of fish markets in Mumbai, Chennai and Andhra Pradesh. It had also spent Rs 109 crore on building of 32 fish landing centres and development of 21 fishing harbours in eight states including AP.
