The five-time World boxing champion  and Olympic bronze-medalist has done the country proud again by winning the first Gold in Boxing for India at the Asian Games 2014.

The 31 year old who is a mother of three beat Kazakhstan's Zhaina Shekerbekova  2-0 in the flyweight (51KG). Her win was met with loud cheers with even Kazak fans applauding for her.

Twitter has been abuzz with congratulatory tweets pouring in for 'Magnificent Mary' . Here is a look at some of the top tweets:

Mary Kom's biopic was released recently with Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra playing the lead. The film received a positive response. Priyanka Chopra who was jubilant after Mary's win, tweeted the following:
Mary Kom's gold has taken India's medal tally at the Asian Games to  47  with 7 gold, 8 silver and 32 bronze medals taking India to No.10 position. Another gold will take India to the top six position.

The Asian Games had come under the scanner yesterday for a couple of controversial decisions. Indian Boxer Sarita Devi was allegedly robbed of her win. Sarita lost her bout in the lightweight (57-60kg)  semifinals to South Korea’s Jina Park a bout that was evidently dominated by Sarita.

Later today, she broke down on the podium during the medal ceremony and refused to wear the bronze medal she had to settle for.

Mary serves as an inspiration for millions of girls in the country especially women athletes who have to combat societal pressure along with the stagnant sports infrastructure in the country to do well in the field.
