Global IT major Google today launched its Helping Women Get Online Campaign (HWGO) in Uttar Pradesh.
The two-month campaign is aimed at digital literacy amongst women folks and creating awareness about the benefits of internet.
Women form 30% of the overall internet users in India, UP being no exception.
However, their lower internet usage is in stark contrast to the almost at par literacy rate of 70-75% amongst men and women.
"We aim to help over 5,00,000 women and girls across UP gain literacy," Google marketing director Sandeep Menon said.
Google will cover over 20 cities through road-shows and internet training modules for girls' educational institutions.
