The Maharashtra government is contemplating handing over the triple Dalit family murder case at Javkheda village in Ahmednagar district to eminent lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, Minister of State Dilip Kamble said today.

Three members of the Dalit family in the village including the husband, wife and their 19-year-old son were murdered in their house by unknown assailants on October 21 and their severed body parts were found in a dry well.

Kamble, Minister of State for Social Justice, who visited the family yesterday, told PTI here today that the government will try to engage noted criminal lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, if he is available, to take up the case expected to be cracked within a "couple of days". The accused has been arrested. "We will approach Nikam to engage him as public prosecutor," he added.
