The state government has decided to pay salaries to the employees and pensions to the pensioners for May one week in advance on May 24 to expedite the account processing work as the existing state of Andhra Pradesh ceases to exist from June 2. Normally salaries and pensions are paid on the first day of the succeeding month.

The government issued the orders citing the appointed date being June 2 for the formation of Telangana state. Earlier, the director of treasuries informed the government that in view of the state reorganisation, the government transactions related to the combined state should be closed prior to the scheduled date. There are about 998,000 employees and close to 600,000 pensioners on the government rolls.
