The Union Government on Wednesday said it would provide additional employment of 50 days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA) in the drought hit areas of the country.
"The cabinet has decided to add employment of 50 days over and above 100 days per household under MGNREGA scheme in the drought hit areas," said Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
"This would be in addition to the already allocated 100 days per household under the plan," he added.
Prasad also said that the government has taken many steps to deal with droughts across the nation and advised states to prepare Integrated Cluster Action Plans regarding the same.
