The forthcoming national executive meeting of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) would see top leaders discuss further course of action with regard the controversy over Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal, who has been accused by the party of giving false information to acquire land in home state Rajasthan.

BJP national Secretary and former MP Kirit Somaiya on Tuesday said that if Beniwal is not removed from the post of Gujarat governor in next few days, a high level delegation from his party would meet the President for her recall. "Kamla Beniwal has indulged into cheap tactics and lied to the government of Rajasthan to get illegal membership of cooperative society to claim right over a piece of land that worth over Rs 1000 crore," Somaiya said addressing a media conference here on Tuesday.

"We have demanded recall of Gujarat governor. This issue will be deliberated at the party's national executive committee meeting on May 24-25 later this week for further course of action. A high level delegation of BJP would be meeting the President on this issue if there is no recall of governor," he said.

The issue was first raised in the Upper House of the Parliament by the BJP last week, who had alleged that Beniwal had “forged documents” to acquire a piece of land in her native state Rajasthan, and demanded that she should be recalled with immediate effect.

The Narendra Modi government had been at loggerheads with the Governor ever since the Lokayukta issue which saw both indulging in a legal battle which has reached the Supreme Court and is presently pending there.

In August last year the Governor had appointed retd Justice R A Mehta as Lokayukta of the Gujarat state, which was challenged in the Gujarat High Court by the state government. However, after the High Court upheld the Governor's decison, the state government approached the Supreme Court alleging that the appointment of Lokayukta was unconstitutional.
