Gujarat DGP Amitabh Pathak cremated

Gujarat DGP Amitabh Pathak, who died on Saturday in Thailand, was cremated today here with police honours.

Pathak (58) died of a massive heart attack while holidaying with his family at a beach resort in southern Thailand.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi also paid floral tributes to Pathak.

"Pathak was cremated with police honours at AMC crematorium near V S Hospital, Ellisbridge," in-charge DGP Pramod Kumar said. Before cremation, his body, which was brought back late last night, was kept at IPS officers' mess here for the public to pay their last tributes. An IPS officer of 1977 batch, he is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
 
Pathak, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, was appointed Director General of Police of Gujarat on February 27 this year. He was due to retire in February 2015.
