Gujarat hikes salaries of govt employees on fix-pay

The decision will benefit over 100,000 state govt employees

Ahead of Diwali the Gujarat government has announced 37-58 per cent hike in salaries of government employees of class 3 and class 4 who are on five year probation and drawing a fixed pay. The new salaries will be applicable from October 1, 2014.

The decision which received approval from chief minister Anandiben Patel today will benefit over 100,000 state government employees and put an additional burden of Rs  360 crore on the state exchequer.

Announcing the details of the decision, state government spokesperson Nitin Patel said that the chief minister has approved hike in salaries of fix-pay government employees. The new salary range would be Rs  7,100 - Rs  13,700 from the existing Rs  4,500 to Rs  10,000. The rise in percentage terms for fixed pay employees ranges from 37 per cent to 58 per cent and Rs  2,600 to Rs  3,700 in absolute terms.
 
“This is a Diwali gift from chief minister Anandiben Patel for the state government employees,” stated an official government release. Spokesperson Nitin Patel further informed that in the coming days 250,000 youth are likely to get opportunity to join the government services in various departments.
