The Madras High Court today set aside the appointment of Kalyani Mathivanan as Vice-Chancellor of the Madurai Kamaraj University.

A division bench of justices V Ramasubramanian and V M Velumani here allowed a batch of petitions seeking to quash her appointment as VC.

They had questioned her qualifications and alleged that she was ineligible to hold the post as per the University Grants Commission regulations.

A person, who is to be appointed as VC, should be a distinguished academician with a minimum of 10 years of experience as professor but it was not so in the case of the present VC, the petitioners had said, quoting various regulations.
