Heavy rains across Gujarat, except in Kutch

The state recorded an average of 50 mm rainfall in last 24 hours

Heavy rains lashed most part of Gujarat with state recording an average 50 mm rainfall in last 24 hours. The weather department has forecast moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at most places across Gujarat in the next couple of days. Despite most parts of the state receiving good rain fall, Kutch remained deprived of the much needed relief.

Monsoon was vigorous over south, central and north Gujarat, while was active over Saurashtra and Kutch region. The well marked low pressure area over west Madhya Pradesh and weakened into a low pressure area and lied over northwest Madhya Pradesh. It is also associated with upper air cyclonic circulation over the same region. Even the off shore trough extending from sourth Gujarat to Kerala coast persisted, local Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

In the last 24 hours almost all parts of Gujarat received rainfall with 33 mm in north Gujarat, 87 mm in tribal belt, 18 mm in Saurashtra and 86 mm in south Gujarat region. With this the total roral rainfall for the season went up to 205.83 mm which is 25.83 per cent of the total rainfall Gujarat receives. While most parts of Gujarat have received 20-30 per cent of seasons’ rain, Kutch registered on 5 per cent of the showers. Over all Gujarat has received 25.83 mm of rains of the season.

The Saurashtra region received 10 mm to 100 mm rain in till Thursday morning. So far there were no reports of any damages or casualties in the region, accept for a few reports of tree collapse due to heavy win in several  places like Rajkot, Junagadh and Bhavnagar. The highest rainfall was registered in Kamrej 200mm followed by Mahudha 170mm, Vyara 160mm, Sankheda 150mm, Vansda 150mm, Kathalal 140mm, Dangs 140mm, Vallabh Vidhyanagar 140mm, Godhra 130mm, Nadiad 130mm, Chhota Udepur 130mm, Sojitra 130mm, Halol 130mm, Wanakbori 130mm, Padra 130mm.
