Heavy rains for next 24 hrs in Mumbai, people advised to stay home

Till 8 am Colaba recorded a rainfall of 158.6 mm and Santacruz 168 mm

Weather Bureau in its forecast today said heavy rains are expected in and around Mumbai. The advisory issued by the weather bureau, police and Mumbai civic body has asked Mumbaikars to avoid long distance journeys, try not to send children to schools. Most of the schools in city and suburbs and adjoining Thane have declared holiday in view of the heavy rains. There have been traffic jams on both eastern and western highways.
 
Till 8 am Colaba has recorded a rainfall of 158.6 mm and Santacruz 168 mm.
 
There has been water logging at few places mostly in low lying areas. High tide with 4.94 mts at 1.27 pm .
 
 
Trains on western, central and harbour are running 15-20 minutes behind the schedule due to heavy rains and water logging on tracks. 
 
According to the airport sources, the visibility is normal as of now.
 
Meanwhile, Mumbai Mayor Sunil Prabhu has asked administration especially engineers to fill up the potholes within 48 hours or face the axe. The civic administration has admitted that this year the number of potholes has increased despite carrying out pre monsoon strengthening.
