Heavy rains Haryana, parts of Punjab

Heavy rainfall and thundershowers occurred at most places in Haryana and some parts of Punjab today, causing mercury to fall by a few notches in the region.

Bhiwani (31.2 mm), Gurgaon (55 mm), Sirsa (5 mm), Narnaul (47 mm) and Jind (87 mm) were among other places in Haryana to be lashed by heavy showers, the MeT sources said here.

Panchkula (23 mm), Kalka (18 mm), Hisar (4.8 mm), Ambala (48.8 mm) and Panipat (1 mm) were also lashed by rains.

Chandigarh, the capital of both the states, was lashed by 15.4 mm of rains early today, but dry weather prevailed during the rest of the day here.
 
In Punjab, Amritsar (1.4 mm), Ludhiana (8.4 mm), Patiala (7.6 mm), Madhopur (57 mm), Ranjit Sagar Dam (14.6mm), Shahpur Kandi area (94 mm), Nangal Dam (76.8 mm), Jagraon (6 mm), Malikpur in Gurdaspur district (109.6 mm), Hoshiarpur (8 mm), Kapurthala (7 mm) and Mohali (11 mm) were lashed by the showers.

There had been a slight fall in the maximum temperatures at many places in the region, the sources added.
