Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Friday morning, crippling normal life and bringing the city almost to a standstill.

Office-going crowd was largely affected as it started pouring heavily just before the peak hour started.

Suburban trains were hit as water started entering the tracks. BEST buses too were running late on the back of traffic jams. Traffic came to a standstill in various bottleneck areas of the city.

Water-logging was reported in several areas of the city, adding to the woes. The problem was reported from the areas of Hindmata-Parel, Sion, Pratiksha Nagar, Mazgaon, Elphinstone, Bandra and Dadar TT.

Some flights arriving to and departing from Mumbai were delayed due to the weather. Central railways announced that trains from Thane to CST were been suspended.

The Met department has forecast heavy rains in the region for the next 48 hours. The city will also see a high tide around 1:30 pm on Friday.
