An analysis of booking data conducted by online travel portal Cleartrip has shown that 40% of city residents opt for hill stations for weekend breaks. The study was based on bookings during April-July.

Over 40% of travellers opted for hill stations while 23% chose beach destinations followed by heritage sites (15%), pilgrimage (10%). Kodaikanal, Munnar, Ooty and Goa emerged as top choice for weekend travel and travellers are ready to spend upto Rs 4,000 per person per night, study showed.

An interesting trend from the analysis reveals that 54% of travellers indicated driving distance to destination as the deciding factor in planning the trip. " Weekend Getaways is as much a pre-planned activity, as it is a spontaneous one. While approximately 35% travellers seem to be planning their weekends only 3-days prior to date of travel, an equally organized chunk of travellers seem to be planning them well in advance," Cleartrip said.
