Siddaramaiah today said he is one of the strong contenders for the chief minister's post.

"It is left to the party high command and the legislature party to elect the leader," he told reporters. The Congress will give clean, stable and corruption free government, he said.

"The BJP has been pushed to the third position because of its indulgence in corruption. It is a big lesson for them. The people of this state wants a clean and coruption free administration. They do not want coalition government," he said.

Siddaramaiah trounced his nearest rival, Kapu Siddalinga Swamy of KJP, by a margin of 20,000 votes from Varuna constituency in Mysore district. He is currently the leader of Opposition in the assembly.
