Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan has asked people not to write his obituary saying that he will remain in his job till September and visit India regularly even after he moves to USA to teach.
"I read these obituaries in the paper, I’m still alive. I will be leaving this office in September but I will certainly be coming in and out of the country on numerous occasions. I will be reading and writing and speaking at several occasions," said Rajan at an event organised by the Assocham in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Rajan on Saturday announced his intention not to seek a second term as the RBI governor, after the government remained silent on accusations made by BJP MP Subramanian Swamy.
"In the last few days I've read lot of my obituaries and I'm still here for two-and-a-half months in this job," said Rajan "After that I'll be still around somewhere in the world, probably a lot in India so don't write me off."
"What I’m going to talk about today is the resolution of financial distress. To some extent I’m talking about obituaries rather than birth announcements," Rajan opened his remarks with these comments.
The RBI Governor explained on how the banking regulator is addressing systemic issues in loans in public sector banks and the efforts made that would help improve the overall banking system.
