Bengaluru airport and International Air Transport Association (IATA) have tied up to improve passenger experience in areas like check-in, baggage handling and security.

On Wednesday, Bengaluru International Airport (BIAL) and IATA signed a memorandum of understanding, or MoU, (the first of its kind for an Indian airport) to enhance cooperation in various areas of airport operations. The MoU could result in trials of new technologies, processes and testing concepts at Bengaluru airport, IATA said in a statement.

“This will place BIAL at the forefront of airport operations. These trials will ensure global best practice solutions are appropriately adapted to the Indian environment and will provide guidance for rolling out the implementation to other Indian airports,” said IATA’s Regional Vice-President (Asia Pacific) Conrad Clifford. The IATA Fast Travel initiative (passenger self-service solutions), passenger facilitation programme (security and immigration solutions) and smart security are among the initiatives being considered as part of the MoU.
