To save thousands of Covid-19 patients who are dying because of a shortage of oxygen and storage cylinders, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will provide innovative, home-grown technology for setting up 500 medical oxygen plants (MOPs).

These will be set up within three months, under the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation (PM CARES) Fund, a DRDO press release announced on Wednesday.

Each oxygen plant is designed to produce 1,000 litres of oxygen per minute (LPM). This quantity amounts to life-saving oxygen supply to 190 patients, at a flow rate of 5 litres
