Isro's Mars Mission flies in social media

The Mars Orbiter Mission is all set for launch on November 5 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), is using the social networking sites to spread word on its efforts, especially the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM). The official FaceBook page on its historic run-up to the launch of inter-planetary mission to Mars, launched on October 22, has got over 11,000 likes so far.

The Organisation, which has a page launched in Wikipedia for the mission, is also present twitter with over 10,000 followers.

ISRO said that it was delighted at the stupendous response for the dedicated FaceBook page and earlier said “...we know, lot of members of our ISRO family is on Facebook, you have reached this page, liked it too... now 'Promote' this page among your colleagues, friends, social contacts and so on - we want to reach all netizens of this country - that too before the D-day...We are all ears to your suggestions/queries/wishes”.
 
The page already got 11,536 likes till Friday afternoon and more than 10,000 people talking about it. Besides, ISRO has 10,302 active followers in Twitter.

It may be noted, the US Space Agency NASA is active in Social Media, especially the Face book.

ISRO's Facebook account (goo.gl/cybk4I) was created on October 22 to give insights into its MOM highlighting the objectives of the expedition, pictures, graphics and updates. The page also has a countdown clock. It may be noted the countdown for the launch will start on Sunday.

The Mars Orbiter Mission is all set for launch on November 5 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

ISRO has been updating the page under various series and one of the noticed title was “Crafting THE CRAFT” under which ISRO brings in set of never-seen-before pictures capturing the end to end realisation of the Mars orbiter spacecraft.

ISRO's Chairman K Radhakrishnan in an interview to a Newspaper said that ISRO wants to bring this mission to the people of this country. They should live with us during the entire mission period.

For the Mars mission, ISRO, he had said, would continue the efforts through the Internet, “not by sensation but with constant, relevant information for the interested community,” said in the interview.
