Actor Sanjay Dutt may not get liberty of eating home cooked food in future. The Yeravada Central Jail authorities have approached the TADA court seeking clarity on whether Dutt, an accused in 1993 Mumbai blasts case, can be given home cooked food especially when jail manual does not allow for it.
The apex court had allowed Dutt to have a home cooked food for a month since he surrendered on May 16 to the Tada court and shifted to Arthur Road jail.
Prison manual states only undertrials, on medical grounds, can get home cooked food.
"Sanjay Dutt is a convict and cannot be given the privilege," the authorities said.
Dutt, whose conviction in 1993 Bombay serial blasts case was upheld by the Supreme Court in March 2013, was brought to Yerwada Jail earlier this month. He is lodged in a separate individual cell in view of his security needs.
Dutt had earlier spent one-and-a-half-years behind bars, and will now spend 42 months at the Yerawada prison. According to prison rules, inmates are allowed to meet family members and relatives once a month.
