Jewellers have withdrawn their all-India strike after their representatives were ensured of complete cooperation by government officials.

According to Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), in a meeting that lasted for eight hours on Saturday, it was decided that a high-level task force will be set up under the leadership of former Chief Economic Adviser Ashok Lahiri to sort out procedural issues. The task force will have three industry representatives, a legal expert and Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) officials as its members.

CBEC will not challenge valuation of products and excise officials will not visit shops or manufacturing units till the recommendations of the task force are finalised and notified. Registration of jewellers with the CBEC will be completed soon.
