An official team from Jharkhand has visited south Odisha's Ganjam district to study the decentralisation process of paddy procurement from the farmers and online payment mode.
The team comprising senior officers of civil supplies, civil supplies corporation, Food Corporation of India (FCI) and cooperation department of the Jharkhand government visited the primary agriculture cooperative societies (PACS) at Narendrapur and Haladiapadara on Wednesday, as part of their study.
The team also discussed with the district administration about the process of paddy procurement process, including registration of farmers, collection of paddy and mode of payments like online money transfer system, said district civil supplies officer Nilakantha Mohanty.
"The Jharkhand government is keen to adopt the decentralisation process in paddy procurement and online payment to the farmers to their food grains. The aim of visit of the team is to know the Odisha model in the paddy procurement before they implement the process. We have explained them the entire process from farmers' registration to payment," he said.
