Justice V M Sahai to become acting Chief Justice of Gujarat HC

He is the seniormost judge in the High Court

Justice Vijay Manohar Sahai will be the acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court after former Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya retired, a senior official of the Court said. "Justice V M Sahai will be the acting Chief Justice of the High Court at present. He is the seniormost judge in the High Court," Registrar General M J Thakkar of Gujarat High Court said.

Justice Sahai, (61), started legal practice at the Allahabad High Court in Uttar Pradesh with his father Justice R M Sahai, who was later elevated as judge in the Supreme Court of India, the High Court website said. He practiced mainly on civil writ and Taxation and appeared in a large number of important cases for UP Service Commission, UP State Road Transport Corporation and in other matters.
 
He was elevated as the judge in Allahabad High Court on February 5, 1999, and later joined the Gujarat High Court on November 28, 2010, it added.

The move came after Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya retired on September 26 from the Court. Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya was enrolled as advocate on March 14, 1975 and was designated as senior advocate on December 19, 1994, the Gujarat High Court website said.
