Unit-I Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) has been closed for the next two months as part of annual maintenance and refuelling activities, according to Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL).
Stating this, RS Sundar, site director, KNPP, said the 1000-Mw capacity Unit-I would resume power generation soon after the completion of the maintenance exercise.
NPCIL has set up two Russia-supplied 1,000-Mw nuclear power plants at Kudankulam in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu. The Unit-I, which is operating at 60 per cent plant capacity, was connected to the southern grid in December 2014.
KNPP officials said the test reports of the hot run taken up at the second unit had been submitted to the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) for its review. The second unit at Kudankulam has achieved a physical progress of 98.23 per cent as on May 2015, according to NPCIL.
