Security forces detect 120 IEDs planted by Maoists in Jharkhand's Latehar
Security forces engaged in anti-Naxal operation detected 120 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by Maoists in Jharkhand's Latehar district, police said.
The security forces detected the IEDs planted by the Maoists to target them in Budapahad area of Latehar district, which was earlier a den of the Maoists, on Friday, the police said. The IEDs have been defused, they said.
Two drones spotted near IB in Punjab, return after BSF troops open fire
A drone from Pakistan was spotted close to the international border of India and Pakistan in Kassowal area of Gurdaspur district in Punjab, officials said on Sunday.
The unmanned aerial vehicle flew back to Pakistan after the Border Security Force (BSF) troops fired at it Saturday night, they said. The BSF personnel fired at least 96 rounds at the drone and also used five illumination bombs, they said.
After Covid-induced lull, HP logs over three-time rise in tourist footfall
Tourism in the hill state has picked up pace after a Covid-induced lull with footfall surging over three times this year till October 31 compared to the corresponding year-ago period. According to data procured from the tourism department, Himachal Pradesh witnessed the arrival of 1.28 crore tourists, including 28,232 foreigners, between January 1 and October 31.
In the corresponding year-ago period, the state had welcomed 41.03 lakh tourists, the data showed. The maximum tourists -- 20.63 lakh -- visited in June while January recorded the lowest footfall at 7.69 lakh.
UGC to unveil framework for 4-year UG programmes; rollout in 2023-24
The University Grants Commission has finalised the framework for the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUGP) that will be implemented in all higher education institutions from 2023-24 academic session.
According to the UGC, these rules for four-year undergraduate courses will be shared with all universities across the country next week. Besides all 45 central universities, the FYUGP will also be implemented in most of the state and private universities from the next academic session.
Hybrid terrorist of LeT killed in encounter in J-K's Anantnag: Police
A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) hybrid terrorist, accompanying a police party for identifying a hideout, was killed during an encounter between security forces and ultras in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, police said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Cheki Dudoo area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir's Anantnag district early Sunday morning following specific input about the presence of terrorists there, they said.
Bihar CM will be gheraoed if he fails to deliver on job promise: Kishor
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be gheraoed if the JD(U) chief fails to fulfil his promise of providing "10 lakh government jobs" to youths of the state, political strategist-turned-activist Prashant Kishor has said.
Talking to reporters in Makhania village in East Champaran district, Kishor said, "The CM, during his Independence Day speech at Gandhi Maidan, had claimed that the grand alliance government aimed at providing jobs to 10 lakh people in the government sector. Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav had also said that his RJD, as part of the new regime, would deliver on the promise. I, along with the youths of Bihar, will gherao Kumar if he fails on this front."
Bharat Jodo Yatra to conclude its Maharashtra leg, enter Madhya Pradesh
The Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi resumed in Buldhana district on Sunday, the last day of its Maharashtra leg from where it will enter Madhya Pradesh at night.
The foot march, a mass contact initiative of the Congress, entered its 74th day on Sunday. It began at 6 am from Bhendval in Buldhana after a night halt at Sairam Agro centre.
US varsity updates policy, allows Sikh students to wear kirpan on campus
The University of North Carolina, Charlotte, has updated its 'Weapons on Campus' policy to allow Sikh students to wear a kirpan, a religious expression of faith, on campus. The move comes about two months after a Sikh student at the university was arrested on campus for wearing the ceremonial dagger.
According to the updated policy, the university will allow students to wear kirpans on campus as long as the blade length is under 3 inches and is "worn close to the body in a sheath at all times".
PM Modi to address four rallies in Saurashtra region of poll-bound Gujarat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address four public rallies in Gujarat's Saurashtra region today, the second day of his visit to the poll-bound state.
The PM will offer prayers at the Somnath temple and then he will address a rally in Veraval town of Gir Somnath district. From there, he will leave for Dhoraji in Rajkot district to address another election rally, a BJP functionary said. The PM is also scheduled to address rallies in Amreli and Botad later in the day.
Tesla recalls 300,000 vehicles in US over taillight software glitch
Tesla is recalling more than 300,000 vehicles in the US because a software glitch can make taillights go off intermittently, increasing the risk of a collision.
Tesla said in documents posted Saturday by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the glitch may affect one or both taillights on certain Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. Brake lamps, backup lamps and turn signal lamps are not affected by the software problem, the company said.
South Korea, US conduct joint air drills involving B-1B bombers: Official
A US B-1B Lancer strategic bomber has joined a South Korea-US joint air drill after North Korea fired an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) towards the East Sea, South Korean military officials said.
The supersonic bomber made a sortie over South Korea's air defence identification zone (KADIZ) escorted by South Korea's F-35A jets and US F-16 fighters, Yonhap news agency reported, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).
Nepal votes to elect new parliament, provincial assemblies amid instability
Millions of Nepalese began voting on Sunday to elect a new parliament and provincial assemblies amid tight security, hoping to end the political instability that has plagued the country for more than a decade and impeded growth.
The polling started at 7 am local time at over 22,000 polling centres and will close at 5 pm. The counting of the votes will begin soon after the polling ends but final results are expected within a week. More than 17.9 million eligible voters will elect a 275-member House of Representatives.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said when lawyers strike, the consumer of justice suffers, the person for whom justice is meant, and not the judges or the lawyers. In his address at a function organised by the Bar Council of India to felicitate him, the CJI said harmony and balance is crucial to maintaining the tranquility of our society and courts as institutions of governance in the country have a role to define that sense of harmony and balance.
Recalling the days when he was the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, the CJI said they had a couple of strikes and he would always call lawyers and ask them to speak to him about what problem they are facing, and "why do we strike against each other?"
