ICC announces qualification process for 2023 Women's T20 World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the qualifying pathway for the 2023 Women's T20 World Cup which will he held in South Africa.
 
The 10-team tournament which has now been rescheduled to February 9-26, 2023 will see the hosts South Africa and the seven top teams on the ICC rankings as of November 30, 2021 -- from the teams that competed at the Australia 2020 event -- qualify automatically for the 2023 edition.

Twitter 'inadvertently' restricted Trump's disputed election tweets

Twitter briefly restricted disputed election tweets by Donald Trump and disabled all kind of user engagement with those tweets, later admitting it "inadvertently" limited engagements and reversed the action.

Some users noticed that the ability to like, retweet or reply to Trump tweets with "disputed" labels was not working.

"Copying the URL to one of the disputed tweets also appeared to be disabled, and quote-tweets were not appearing in search results," The Verge reported late on Saturday.

A Twitter spokesperson later said that it "inadvertently took action to limit engagements," on Trump's tweet and has since reversed the action.

Delhi Police rejects AAP's request to hold dharna outside Amit Shah's residence

The Delhi Police has rejected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha's request for permission to hold a demonstration outside the residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

AAP was planning to hold 'dharna' outside Home Minister Shah's house on Sunday against alleged misappropriation of funds by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

"...Any type of gathering is not allowed outside the residence of Hon'ble Home Minister of India. Your request has been considered but rejected. You are requested to co-operate with the Delhi Police," the Delhi Police said in its reply.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday said the archaeological site, discovered on the bank of Chanan river in Amarpur area of Banka district, might emerge as a place of interest for the entire world.

The Chief Minister visited the archaeological site in Banka district on Saturday.

"When I heard about the discovery of the site, I had a gut feeling that it might be of the period of Buddha. Later, I came to know that it was about 2,600 years old. I feel once the excavation is complete, the site will emerge as a place of interest for not just people of the state or the country, but the entire world," Kumar said while talking to the media after his visit.

Need to find 'swadeshi alternative' to imports from China: Nitin Gadkari

Noting the importance of 'swadeshi alternative' against imports from countries like China, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has emphasised on the need of research on the emerging technology like electric vehicles, without compromising the quality and cost of the goods or products.

"You do research on (EV) parts we are making in India and what we are importing. We are importing many EV parts from China. We need to find out a swadeshi alternative to whatever we are importing, without compromising the quality and cost," Gadkari said while addressing the virtual session during FICCI's 93rd Annual General Convention on Saturday.

The Union Minister said that we aim to create employment and aid village and small industries to grow. He also said that the government is taking a step towards recognising and facilitating rural entrepreneurs.

Iran executes dissident journalist Ruhollah Zam for inciting unrest in 2017

Iran has executed once-exiled journalist Ruhollah Zam for his online work that inspired nationwide economic protests in 2017.
 
According to Al Jazeera report, Zam, who was captured in 2019 after years in exile, was executed four days after the Iranian Supreme Court upheld the death sentence against him that was earlier issued by a revolutionary court.
 
The state-run IRNA news agency has reported that the journalist was hanged early on Saturday morning.
 
The execution of the journalist has been condemned by Reporters Without Borders calling his trials as "grossly unfair".

Over 748,000 voters in 31 Jammu and Kashmir constituencies to cast votes in 6th phase of DDC elections on Sunday

Over 748,000 voters in 31 District Development Council (DDC) constituencies will cast their votes on Sunday in the sixth phase of the first-ever DDC elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

As many as 7,48,301 electors, including 3,90,432 male and 3,57,869 female voters, will decide the fate of 124 candidates in the Kashmir division for 14 seats, and 121 in the Jammu division for 17 seats. 334 Panch and 77 Sarpanch seats will also witness voting across the union territory.

A total of 2,071 polling stations have been designated with 1,208 in the Kashmir division and 863 in the Jammu division, State Election Commissioner (SEC), KK Sharma said.

Thousands of farmers have been protesting at various border points of Delhi for over two weeks, demanding repeal of the new farm laws.
