Businesses cannot be run on black box model : Sebi chief on algo trading
Sebi chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch on Wednesday said any business model that relies on a black box and that cannot be audited or validated will not be permitted.
She also said since data is a public infrastructure, any attempt by any private party to own them cannot be tolerated.
"We are not for or against algo trading as long as there is sufficient transparency and disclosures. Business models cannot rely on a black box... therefore any claim that cannot be audited and validated cannot be permitted," Buch said addressing the Global Fintech Fest here this morning.

Deeply saddened by Raju Srivastava's death: Rajnath Singh
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said he was deeply saddened by the death of popular comedian-actor Raju Srivastava, and expressed condolences to his bereaved family and fans.
In a tweet in Hindi, Singh described him as an adept performer and a person who had a lively and cheerful personality.
The 58-year-old Srivastava died on Wednesday after over 40 days of hospitalisation here.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday announced a partial mobilisation in Russia as the war in Ukraine reaches nearly seven months.
Putin's address to the nation comes a day after Russian-controlled regions in eastern and southern Ukraine announced plans to hold votes on becoming integral parts of Russia. The Kremlin-backed efforts to swallow up four regions could set the stage for Moscow to escalate the war following Ukrainian successes on the battlefield.
The referendums, which have been expected to take since the first months of the war, will start Friday in the Luhansk, Kherson and partly Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions.
Formula 1 announces calendar for 2023 Championships, record 24 races to take place throughout season
Formula 1 has announced the calendar for the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship, which has met the approval of the World Motor Sport Council.
The announcement was made on Tuesday. The Championship will start off in Bahrain on March 5 and will conclude in Abu Dhabi on November 26. The 2023 season will feature 24 races, which is a record. China and Qatar are set to make a return, Las Vegas will also arrive as the penultimate round for a Saturday night race.
In August, the traditional summer break will stay. But there are changes in race dates, due to which Belgium has moved to the end of July as back-to-back with Hungary and Netherlands is twinned with Italy after the restart.
Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena moves HC to seek nod for Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park in Mumbai
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena on Wednesday moved the Bombay High Court seeking permission to hold its annual Dussehra rally at the Shivaji Park in central Mumbai.
The petition was filed by the Shiv Sena and its secretary Anil Desai.
The plea said the party was constrained to approach the HC as the Mumbai civic body was yet to take a decision on their applications submitted in August seeking permission for the rally.
Nearly 14.7 mn kids in US infected with Covid
Almost 14.7 million children in the US have tested positive for Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic in early 2020, according to the latest report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Children's Hospital Association.
Nearly 321,000 of these cases have been added in the past four weeks, Xinhua news agency quoted the report published on Tuesday as saying.
Approximately 6.8 million reported cases have been added in 2022, according to the report.

The Minister, speaking to IANS on condition of anonymity, said that the sooner the present standoff ends the better it is for the all and if it continues unabated, then it could well become the order of the day even causing a serious dent to the Constitution.
Incidentally at the most recent Kerala Assembly session, which ended early this month, 11 Bills were passed and it includes the one on Universities (Amendment) and another one on Kerala Lokayukta. Khan then had categorically said he will not sign the Lokayukta Bill and put a rider on other nine Bills that he will sign only if the concerned minister briefs him.
Popular comic-actor Raju Srivastava dies after 41 days in Delhi hospital
Celebrated comedian-actor Raju Srivastava died on Wednesday after over 40 days of hospitalisation here, said his brother Dipoo Srivastava. He was 58.
Raju Srivastava suffered a heart attack on August 10 while working out at a hotel here. He was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and underwent angioplasty. Since then, he was on the ventilator and never gained consciousness.
"I got a call from the family about half-an-hour ago saying he is no more. It is really unfortunate news. He was fighting in the hospital for over 40 days," Dipoo Srivastava told PTI.
Raju Srivastava was declared dead at 10.20 am, according to hospital sources.

The I2U2 grouping of India, Israel, UAE and the US has expressed commitment to deepening their economic partnership and has taken stock of current projects in agriculture and clean energy and reviewed potential projects to help the group's objectives.
The group met here on Tuesday on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly Meeting.
According to a statement from the US State Department, Under Secretary of State Jose W Fernandez met with his I2U2 Group counterparts India's Ministry of External Affairs Economic Relations Secretary Dammu Ravi, Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director General Alon Ushpiz and United Arab Emirates Minister of State Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh.
"The group expressed its commitment to deepening the economic partnership among the four countries. They took stock of current projects in agriculture and clean energy and reviewed potential projects to help further the group's objectives," it said.
Gehlot meets party MLAs, hints filing nomination for Cong prez post
In a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party, Rajasthan Chief MInister Ashok Gehlot has indicated that he will file his nomination for the post of national president of the party.
Addressing the meeting, Rajasthan CM said, "I will try to convince Rahul Gandhi for the last time, if he does not agree, then I will trouble you and follow the order of the high command."
Soon after his announcement, many MLAs were seen requesting him to stay here.
Answering them, Gehlot said, "Whatever I become, but I will not stay away from you, I will serve Rajasthan till my last breath."
In fact, he also hinted that he shall continue as CM as he asked MLAs to start working for the Budget.
