6.0 magnitude quake hits Indonesia's Sulawesi
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 on the Ritcher scale hit Indonesia's Sulawesi on Tuesday, as per the National Center for Seismology (NCS). "Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.0, Occurred on 19-04-2022, 06:53:13 IST, Lat: 7.20 & Long: 127.0, Depth: 50 Km, Location: 779km NNE of Kotamobagu, Sulawesi, Indonesia," NCS tweeted. There are no reports of casualties or loss of properties as of now. Further details are awaited.

S.Africa declares state of national disaster to tackle widespread floods
As the cost of last week's floods which badly affected KwaZulu-Natal Province reached billions of rands, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a National State of Disaster on Monday night.
The cabinet met in a special session Sunday night and decided to declare a National State of Disaster, Ramaphosa said in his televised address, Xinhua news agency reported.
"The primary responsibility to coordinate and manage the disaster is assigned to the national sphere of government, working closely together with provincial governments and municipalities," he added.

Noida cops hit ground asking people to wear face masks amid COVID-19 spike
With the UP government making wearing of masks mandatory in public places in NCR districts due to rise in COVID-19 cases, the Gautam Buddh Nagar police on Monday started an awareness campaign to ensure everyone had their faces covered. Police Commissioner Alok Singh directed officials and asked them to use public address systems for asking people to wear face masks, according to an official statement.

Second arrest made in South Carolina mall shooting
Police in South Carolina have announced the arrest of a second person connected to a shootout inside a busy shopping mall in the state's capital, one of two mass shootings that rocked the state over the Easter holiday weekend. Columbia Police Chief W.H. Skip Holbrook on Monday said police have arrested Marquise Love Robinson, 20. Authorities are also seeking a third suspect, Amari Sincere-Jamal Smith. Both men face charges of attempted murder and nine counts of aggravated assault and battery.
Nine people were shot and another six injured in the rush to exit Columbiana Centre in Columbia, authorities said, with no fatalities reported. Holbrook said one person remained in the intensive care unit Monday.

Russia starts battle for Donbas, Ukraine will defend itself: Zelensky
Russian forces have begun the battle for the Donbas region, but Ukraine will defend itself, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said in a video address. "Now we can say that Russian troops have started the battle for Donbas, for which they have been preparing for a long time. A very large part of the entire Russian army is now focused on this offensive," Zelensky was quoted as saying by the state-run Ukrinform news agency. "No matter how many Russian troops are driven there, we will fight," he added.
