India a proud cricket country, won't roll over at MCG: Paine
Australian captain Tim Paine on Friday said a "proud" cricketing nation like India is not going to roll over like Adelaide, in the Boxing Day Test here and singled out KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as potential threats. India are heading into the second Test, starting at the MCG from Saturday, on the back of a humiliating defeat in the series-opener in Adelaide. But Paine is in no mood to take it easy against their battered opponents who collapsed to their record lowest Test score of 36 last week. "Well, we can't pay any attention to mental scars or whatever thing they're talking about," the skipper, who was named Man of the Match in the first Test, said during a virtual press conference.
Dissent is hallmark of democracy: Allahabad HC
In a landmark judgment, the Allahabad High Court has said that "expressing dissent on law-and-order situation in a state is a hallmark of a constitutional liberal democracy like ours, and the same is constitutionally protected under Article 19 of the Constitution (that guarantees right to freedom of speech and expression)". The court made the observation while quashing an FIR lodged against a person for his alleged remarks that the "Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has transformed the state into a jungle raj in which no law and order prevails"." Allowing a writ petition filed by one Yashwant Singh, who had made this remark against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on his Twitter handle, the High Court said it did not "find, even remotely, a commission of offence" under two sections mentioned in the FIR.

Trump's pardoning of convicted Blackwater guards not positive: UN
US President Donald Trump's pardoning of four security guards from the private military firm Blackwater who were convicted of killing 14 Iraqi civilians was not a positive development, a UN spokesman said. "We support what the (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights said. This development is not a positive one for accountability of crimes against civilians," Xinhua news agency quoted Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, as saying at a briefing on Thursday. On the broader issue of paid mercenaries and paid military contractors, the Secretary-General has spoken out very forcefully on the negative influence that they have, he said.

US military confirms pandemic won't sideline Santa Claus
The US military is tracking an elderly man with a white beard and a large belly who goes by the name of Saint Nicholas. There's no reason for alarm though, Air Force Gen. Glen D. VanHerck said. In fact, this is a Christmas tradition going on its 65th year. The North American Aerospace Defense Command, a joint U.S.-Canadian operation that protects the skies over both countries, has tracked the fabled jolly old man since a child mistakenly called the base in 1955, asking to speak to Santa.
