Chinese Defence Minister in Nepal to bolster military cooperation
China's Defence Minister Gen. Wei Fenghe arrived here on Sunday to meet Nepal's top leadership and bolster military cooperation and take the existing friendly bilateral relations to a new height.
Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa welcomed him at the Tribhuvan International Airport, according to the state-run Nepal Television.
The Chinese Defence Minister, also a State Councillor, told reporters that his visit is aimed at implementing bilateral understandings reached between the two governments in the past.
Wei said that the visit will promote bilateral military cooperation between Nepal and China, and take the existing friendly relations between the two neighbours to a new height.

US, UK and Australia among top markets for Indian sellers exporting products on eBay
The US, the UK, mainland Europe and Australia are the top markets for Indian sellers that are exporting products through cross-border e-commerce on eBay's platform, a top official said.
Indian sellers have been witnessing strong demand across categories like apparel, fine jewellery, toys, auto parts and accessories and home decor, especially during the holiday season (Thanksgiving to New Year's), eBay India Country Manager Vidmay Naini told PTI.
"Evolving consumer demand and increase in the trust in purchases outside domestic e-commerce reflect a huge market potential that developing countries like India should tap into for e-commerce exports. The US, the UK, mainland Europe and Australia are the top markets Indian sellers are exporting products through cross-border e-commerce," he said.

Afghan officials say 34 killed in separate suicide bombings
Afghan officials said Sunday at least 34 people were killed in two separate suicide bombings that targeted a military base and a provincial chief.
In eastern Ghazni province, officials said 31 soldiers were killed and 24 others wounded when the attacker drove a military humvee full of explosives onto an army commando base before detonating the car bomb.

Road accident in Bharatpur leaves 4 dead
Four people were killed and seven others injured when a pick-up vehicle collided with a dumper in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan on Sunday, police said.
The accident occurred in Deegpolice station area when the victims were on their way to Haryana from Uttar Pradesh.
The deceased were identified as Ghanendra (33), Uma (30), Jamuna Prasad (56) and pick-up driver Kasim (26), police said.

Modi's Hyd visit: A testimony of Telangana achievement, KCR
Telangana Minister and TRS president K T Rama Rao on Sunday took exception to the state Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao not being invited to receive the Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he visited the city on Saturday.
In this regard, Rama Rao said the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers were not individuals but institutions, and they need to be respected by each other, adding Chandrashekhar Rao should have been invited to receive Modi.
The Prime Minister on Saturday, as part of his three- city tour to take the stock of Covid-19 vaccine development, visited a facility of Bharat Biotech located at Genome valley here and reviewed the progress of Covaxin, a vaccine candidate for Covid-19 being developed by the company.
Rama Rao also said Modi's visit to the facility reaffirms and endorses the fact that Hyderabad is a vaccine capital of the world and thanked him as, according to KTR, it indirectlyindicates that the Telangana government has supported the expansion of life sciences ecosystem in the city.

Finmin asks PSU general insurers to cut flab; rationalise branches, other expenses: Report
The finance ministry has asked public sector general insurance firms, especially National Insurance, Oriental Insurance and United India Insurance, to rationalise branches and cut down avoidable expenses to improve their financial health, sources said.
Earlier this year, the Union Cabinet decided to halt the merger process of three state-owned general insurance companies due to weak financial positions of these three companies. Instead, the government approved fund infusion of Rs 12,450 crore to meet regulatory parameters.
The finance ministry has asked these companies to cut the flab by rationalising branches and rein in other avoidable expenses like guest houses, etc, sources said.
Besides, sources said, they have been asked to expand their business through digital medium.

US reports several explosions heard in Eritrea's capital
The US Embassy in Eritrea says six explosions were heard Saturday night in the capital, Asmara.
It follows an embassy report of another loud noise, possibly an explosion in the city on Friday, nearly two weeks after the government of neighbouring Ethiopia's defiant Tigray region confirmed firing missiles at the city during its war with Ethiopian federal forces.
The latest explosions came just hours after Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed declared victory in his government's fighting against forces of the Tigray People's Liberation Front, which runs the northern Tigray region bordering Eritrea.
