LIVE: First case registered under new anti-conversion law in UP's Bareilly

The first case has been registered under the newly-promulgated Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020, at Deorania Police station in the district, the police informed on Sunday. The accused of pressuring a woman to convert her religion is absconding, the police added.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel had on Saturday promulgated the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance 2020.This came after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Cabinet on November 24 cleared the Ordinance, proposing a maximum punishment of 10 years for "love jihad" related offences.

On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Siddharth Nath Singh had informed about the state cabinet's decision to introduce an ordinance against unlawful religious conversions.

"There were more than 100 incidents reported in which forceful religious conversion was being done. Also, it was reported religious conversions were going on in the state using deceitful means. So to make a law on this becomes an important matter of policy now," Siddharth Nath Singh told ANI.

Farmers got new rights, opportunities with new farm laws: PM Modi

In a bid to allay fears of farmers who have been protesting against the new farm laws, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the agricultural reforms have opened the doors of new opportunities for farmers and gave them more rights.

"Recent agri-reforms have opened the doors of new opportunities for farmers. Decades-old demands of farmers which were promised by many political parties have now been met. Parliament has recently passed farm reform laws after rigorous brainstorming. These reforms have not only broken shackles of farmers but have also given new rights and opportunities to them," PM Modi said while addressing the nation in the 71st edition of his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat'.

"Under this law, it is mandatory to pay farmers within three days of purchasing the produce. If payment is not made, then the farmer can lodge a complaint. Another major provision is that the SDM of the area must address the complaint of the farmer within one month," he said.

Explaining the benefits of the new agriculture laws, the Prime Minister cited an example from Maharashtra's Dhule who got his dues after filing a complaint with the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM).

Culture of great use during crisis, plays important role in overcoming it: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday emphasised on the use of technology in conserving heritage and also said that culture is of great use in times of crisis and plays an important role in overcoming it. Addressing the nation in the 71st edition of his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', he said that people celebrated the heritage week in innovative ways during times of coronavirus.

"A few days back, we celebrated World Heritage Week... Despite coronavirus, we witnessed people celebrating the heritage week in innovative ways. Culture is of great use in times of crisis, it plays an important role in overcoming it. Through technology, culture acts as an emotional recharge. Today, a lot of museums and libraries in the country are working to make their collection fully digital," he said.

"New Delhi's National Museum is working to introduce 10 virtual galleries. Now you will be able to take a tour of these galleries from your home. While it is important to take our cultural heritage to people in a big way through technology, the role of technology is an important role in conserving the heritage," he said.

Delhi's air quality in 'poor' category today

Delhi witnessed a slight improvement in air quality as the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 201 on Sunday, according to SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research). Delhi's air improved drastically as air quality fell from the "severe" to "poor" category in the past few days. One of the behind this respite for Delhiites is strong winds and fewer stubble fires in Punjab and Haryana.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data shows that Delhi's overall AQI on Saturday was 231, considered to be in the "poor" zone. An AQI between 0-50 is marked good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101- 200 is moderate, 201- 300 is poor, 301-400 is very poor and 401-500 is considered severe.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted a maximum temperature of 26 degree Celsius in the national capital and said that skies will remain clear. Meanwhile, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju flagged off Delhi Half Marathon at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium earlier this morning. The AQI around the stadium was recorded at 249 as per the CPCB data.
