Latest News LIVE update: Heavy rain alert in Karnataka districts

Heavy to very heavy rainfall alert has been issued for 13 districts in Karnataka after the state's coastal districts witnessed heavy downpour, an official said on Monday.
 
"The intensity of rainfall has reduced, but there is an orange alert for Malnad districts," an official from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) told IANS.
 
The alert has been issued for Coastal Karnataka districts Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, Bagalkote, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Raichur and Yadgir in the north of the state, and Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Shivamogga in the south of the state. In the past 24 hours, Nada gram panchayat of Byndoor taluk in Udupi district has recorded the maximum amount of rainfall at 284 mm.

Nitish Kumar flags non-cooperation from Nepal in flood management at meeting with PM Modi, seeks Centre's intervention

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday drew the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi about alleged non-cooperation from Nepal in managing floods that have ravaged the state's northern districts. Rivers originating in the neighbouring country have inundated several districts of the state.
 
At a meeting convened by the prime minister on flood situation in states hit by the calamity, Kumar said that the authorities in Bihar had "not been receiving full cooperation from Nepal in the past few years" and sought the Centre's intervention on the matter.
 
"North Bihar gets ravaged by floods because of heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of Nepal. In accordance with an agreement between India and Nepal, the water resources department of Bihar conducts the flood management work in the bordering areas.
 
"But we have not been receiving full cooperation from Nepal in the past few years," Kumar said in the meeting held via video conference.

Sensex rises for third day, gains 142 points ; L&T spurts over 4%

The BSE Sensex notched up gains for the third straight session on Monday, bouyed by engineering, finance and pharma stocks amid positive cues from global markets.
 
After rallying 390.12 points during the day, the 30-share BSE benchmark pared some gains to end 141.51 points or 0.37 per cent higher at 38,182.08. Similarly, the NSE Nifty climbed 56.10 points or 0.50 per cent to close at 11,270.15. L&T was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying 4.81 per cent, followed by M&M, Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra, NTPC, SBI, ICICI Bank and Titan.
 
On the other hand, Reliance Industries, Asian Paints, Maruti, Bajaj Finserv, UltraTech Cement and Bajaj Finance were among the laggards, shedding up to 1.26 per cent.

The Nagaland government has decided to distribute pen drives loaded with study materials among students of classes 5 to 12 residing in rural areas where poor network connectivity hampers their online education, a senior official said on Monday.
 
Two phases of online education have been completed since the closure of the schools due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The pen drives will contain the syllabi covered in the online classes held since May 1, Principal Director of School Education, Shanavas C, said.

Latest News LIVE update: Death toll from Beirut explosions reach 200

The death toll from the two explosions that rocked the Port of Beirut last week has increased to 200, the Lebanese capital city's Governor Marwan Abboud said on Monday. Abboud added that dozens were still missing, many of them foreign workers, while the injuries spiked to more than 7,000, reports the BBC.
 
The army has meanwhile called off the rescue phase of its search operation at the port, the epicentre of the blasts which took place on August 4. The new figures came a day after a second night of violence in the city, as police clashed with protesters angry with the government's response to the disaster, news agency IANS reported.

Fifty-six passengers, who had suffered injuries in the Kozhikode plane crash, have been discharged from various hospitals after obtaining complete fitness, according to Air India Express.
 
The Air India Express flight carrying 190 passengers, including 10 infants, crash-landed at Kozhikode airport on August 7, claiming 18 lives including two pilots.
 
The black box of Air India Express flight was brought to Delhi on Sunday and has been kept at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) lab for examination. Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that findings of the investigation into the accident will be made public.

Parts of Uttar Pradesh witness heavy rains, similar forecast for tomorrow

Heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours, the meteorological department said according to a PTI report on Monday.
 
The chief amount of rainfall on Sunday was recorded in Nighashan (Lakhimpur Kheri) with 18 cm, Kayamganj in Farrukhabad with 11 cm, Shardanagar (Lakhimpur Kheri) and Muzaffarnagar with 10 cm each, Kaisherganj in Bahraich and Puranpur in Pilibhit with 7 cm each, Hathras (Mahamayanagar) and Badaun with 5 cm each, the department said.
 
Meerut recorded the state's highest temperature at 37 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
 
The department has forecast heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over the state on Tuesday.

Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved is considering to bid for the title sponsorship of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), according to a company official.
 
The slot of the title sponsorship of IPL was vacated after the Chinese handset maker Vivo decided to exit from it. The move would help the Haridwar-based firm access a global marketing platform, as Patanjali is focusing on exports for its Ayurveda-based FMCG products.
