US reports Covid resurgence in most states

For the first time in two months, Covid-19 case counts and deaths are rising again in most US states, especially in the northern tier and Rocky Mountains, with a potential fifth wave of the pandemic in sight, according to local media reports.
 
In the week ending on Wednesday, case counts were higher in 29 states than they were the week before, Xinhua news agency quoted a USA Today analysis of Johns Hopkins University data on Friday.
 
A month ago, cases were rising in just 12 states. Compared to a week earlier, hospitals in 23 states reported a rising number of likely Covid-19 patients, the analysis revealed.

Centre releases grant of Rs 8,453.92 cr to 19 states to strengthen health systems

The Central government has released an amount of Rs 8,453.92 crore as a health sector grant for rural and urban local bodies of 19 states to strengthen health systems and plug critical gaps in the health care system at the primary health care level, informed the Ministry of Finance on Saturday.
 
The Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance has released the grant as per the recommendations of the Fifteenth Finance Commission.
 
The Fifteenth Finance Commission (FC-XV) in its report for the period from 2021-22 to 2025-26 has recommended a total grant of Rs 4,27,911 crore to local governments.

India records 11,850 new coronavirus infections, 555 fatalities

A total of 11,850 new coronavirus infections were reported in a span of 24 hours, taking the country's infection tally to 34,426,036, while the active cases declined to 136,308, the lowest in 274 days, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.

The death toll has climbed to 463,245 with 555 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.

The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been below 20,000 for 36 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 139 consecutive days now.

Mizoram reports 669 new COVID-19 cases, 1 death

Mizoram reported 669 new COVID-19 cases and one fatality on Friday, the state health bulletin informed on Saturday.

According to official data, the cumulative caseload of the state stands at 1,28,217 including 5,654 active cases at present.

No recovery has been reported from coronavirus infection on Friday, while the total number of recoveries in Mizoram stands at 1,22,105.

Malaysia reports 6,517 new Covid-19 infections

Malaysia reported another 6,517 new Covid-19 infections as of midnight Friday, bringing the national total to 2,535,338, according to the health ministry.
 
Sixteen of the new cases are imported, with 6,501 being local transmissions, Xinhua news agency citing the data released on the ministry's website showed.
 
Another 41 more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 29,576.

China reports 75 confirmed COVID-19 cases

At least 75 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Chinese mainland on Friday, Chinese media reported on Saturday.
 
The Chinese mainland reported 57 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, Xinhua reported citing the National Health Commission report.
 
Of the new local cases, 40 were reported in Liaoning, four each in Hebei and Inner Mongolia, three in Jiangxi, two in Heilongjiang, and one each in Beijing, Henan, Sichuan and Yunnan, the National Health Commission said.

Global Covid-19 caseload tops 252.4 mn, deaths surge past 5.08 mn

The global coronavirus caseload has topped 252.4 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.08 million and vaccinations soared to over 7.41 billion, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
 
In its latest update on Saturday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload, death toll and the total number number of vaccine doses administered stood at 252,445,139, 5,087,398 and 7,412,265,893, respectively.
 
The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 46,976,314 and 761,715, according to the CSSE.

Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon indicted for contempt of Congress

Longtime Donald Trump adviser Stephen Bannon was indicted for defying subpoenas by the special congressional committee investigating the deadly Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol, a major move by the Justice Department to compel cooperation by the former president’s associates.
 
Bannon is charged with two counts of contempt, the Justice Department said in a statement on Friday: one for his refusal to appear for a deposition and another involving his refusal to produce documents.

Pakistan likely to allow transportation of Indian wheat to Afghanistan through its territory

Pakistan would 'favourably' consider the request by the Taliban regime for transporting wheat offered by India through the country on an "exceptional basis" for humanitarian purposes, said Prime Minister Imran Khan.
 
Imran Khan expressed the views while speaking to a delegation led by Afghanistan's acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, Dawn reported citing Prime Minister's Office's statement.
 
"The Prime Minister conveyed that in the current context Pakistan would favourably consider the request by Afghan brothers for transportation of wheat offered by India through Pakistan on an exceptional basis for humanitarian purposes and as per modalities to be worked out," Pakistan Prime Minister's Office tweeted.

Inauguration of Rajasthan Pavilion at Dubai Expo today

The Rajasthan Pavilion will be inaugurated inside the Indian Pavilion at the Dubai Expo on Saturday.
 
A delegation of Rajasthan Government, represented by state Urban Development and Housing Minister Shanti Dhariwal, Industries Minister Parsadi Lal Meena and Minister of State for Industries Arjun Singh Bamnia, is participating in the expo to attract investments in the state.

S.Korea extends overseas travel advisory until Dec 13

South Korea has extended its special advisory against overseas travel for another month due to the continued spread of Covid-19, the foreign ministry said on Saturday.
 
"Citizens are recommended to cancel or postpone non-essential trips abroad until December 13, as the rise of variant cases in many countries poses risks to their health," Yonhap news agency quoted the ministry as saying.
 
The travel advisory was first imposed in March and has been extended every month as many countries struggle with the outbreaks of various Covid-19 variants and continue to restrict the entry of people arriving from overseas.

Railways to revert to pre-Covid regular services

Providing a much needed relief to the commuters, the Railways has decided to discontinue special trains and revert to the pre-Covid regular services.
 
With the decision coming into effect, trains will run with their usual names, numbers and fares.
 
According to a circular issued by the Railway Board on Friday, trains will be operated with regular numbers and with fares as applicable for the concerned classes of travel and type of train.
 
The decision would likely bring down the current fares by up to 30 per cent.
