Shopian Encounter: Top commander among 4 terrorists killed in separate encounters in Awantipora of Kashmir

Two separate encounters broke out between security forces and terrorists in Shopian and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir, killing four terrorists and injuring four jawans.

 

On Thursday evening, an encounter broke out in Shopian town in which three terrorists have been killed while two others are believed to be hiding inside a local mosque in Jan Mohalla of Shopian. Four Army soldiers, including an officer, have been injured in the encounter.

 

Kashmir Zone Police has said Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) chief, terrorist Imtiyaz Shah, has been killed in the encounter in Tral. A search operation is underway.

 

The second encounter started early morning on Friday in Tral area of Pulwama district where 2-3 terrorists were believed trapped.

 

Internet services have been snapped in both districts as a precautionary measure

LIVE: Election Commission notice to Mamata over remark on central forces

The Election Commission (EC) has issued a notice to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her statements on central armed police forces being used for election security in the state. The notice on Thursday night said Banerjee, who is leader of the Trinamool Congress, prima facie violated various sections of the Indian Penal Code with her remarks, reported PTI.

Banerjee has to respond to the notice by 11 am on Saturday. The EC said prima facie, the completely false, provocative and intemperate statements by Banerjee attempted to berate and vilify central paramilitary forces during the electoral process.

Japan bureau sees 80% chance La Nina weather event ending in spring

Japan's weather bureau said on Friday there was an 80% chance that the La Nina weather phenomenon, seen since last summer, will end in the northern hemisphere spring with a 70% chance of normal weather conditions during summer. A La Nina weather event is characterised by unusually cold ocean temperatures in the equatorial Pacific Ocean region and is also linked to floods and drought, reports Reuters.
