Congress holds 'Satyagraha' at Delhi's Jantar Mantar in support of Agnipath protests
Congress MPs and leaders sat on a 'Satyagraha' at Jantar Mantar here on Sunday in solidarity with the youths protesting the Centre's newly announced Agnipath scheme for recruitment in the armed forces. Congress leaders and supporters criticised the BJP-led central government and said that the Agnipath scheme is not beneficial for the country's youth and also jeopardises national security.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and party leaders Jai Ram Ramesh, Rajiv Shukla, Sachin Pilot, Salman Khurshid and Alka Lamba took part in the 'Satyagraha'. "The scheme should be rolled back," Pilot told PTI on the sidelines of the 'Satyagraha'.

Malaysia reports 2,127 new Covid-19 infections, 1 more death
Malaysia reported 2,127 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Saturday, bringing the national total to 4,538,922, according to the health ministry. There are no new imported cases, with all 2,127 cases being local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.
One more death has been reported, bringing the death toll to 35,732. The ministry reported 1,390 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 4,476,828.

Rajnath meets chiefs of Army, Navy and IAF
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday met the three service chiefs amid escalating protests against the 'Agnipath' military recruitment scheme in several parts of the country. It was Singh's second meeting with the chiefs of the Army, Navy and the Air Force for the second straight day on the issue.
There was no official comment on the meeting. It is learnt that the focus of the deliberations was on pacifying the protesters.

CVC-constituted panel ABBFF gives advice on 84 bank fraud cases
The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) constituted panel -- Advisory Board for Banking and Financial Frauds (ABBFF) -- has given its advice after thorough examination of role of all levels of officials on 84 bank fraud cases involving amount of over Rs 3 crore in the last three years.
Headed by former Vigilance Commissioner T M Bhasin, ABBFF was set up in August 2019, by CVC in consultation with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for conducting first-level of examination in the cases of frauds reported by Public Sector Banks (PSBs), Public Sector Financial Institutions (PSFIs) before these cases were reported to the external investigative agencies viz. CBI, etc.
Earlier in January this year, the ambit of the panel was expanded to conduct first-level examination of large bank fraud cases involving amount of over Rs 3 crore, as against mandate of Rs 50 crore.

Thane logs 837 new Covid-19 cases, no death
With the addition of 837 new Covid-19 cases, the infection count in Maharashtra's Thane district has reached 7,18,884, an official said on Sunday. These new cases were reported on Saturday, he said. The death toll in the district remained unchanged at 11,898 and the Covid-19 mortality rate stood at 1.67 per cent, he added. Thane had reported 957 new Covid-19 cases on Friday and 934 infections on Thursday, as per official figures.

China reports 5 new local Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours
China reported five locally transmitted confirmed Covid-19 cases, including three in Shanghai, one each reported in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and in Liaoning in the past 24 hours, according to the National Health Commission's report Sunday.
Shanghai reported three confirmed locally transmitted Covid-19 cases and six local asymptomatic cases on Saturday, Xinhua News Agency reported citing the municipal health commission. Meanwhile, a total of 22 local asymptomatic carriers were newly identified in nine provincial-level regions, including six in Shanghai, four in Inner Mongolia, and three each in Liaoning and Jilin.

India, Bangladesh to hold first physical Joint Consultative Commission Meeting today
India and Bangladesh are set to hold the seventh meeting of the Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) on Sunday, the External Affairs Ministry said. The first physical JCC Meeting between India and Bangladesh will be held in New Delhi today and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will co-chair the meeting along with his Bangladeshi counterpart AK Abdul Momen.
The JCC will review the bilateral ties including cooperation in the wake of COVID-19, border management and security, trade and investment, connectivity, energy, water resources, development partnership and regional and multilateral issues, the MEA said.

North Korea's new suspected Covid-19 cases dropped below 20,000, according to its state media Sunday. More than 19,310 people showed symptoms of fever over a 24-hour period until 6 p.m. the previous day, the official Korean Central News Agency said, citing data from the state emergency epidemic prevention headquarters, Yonhap news ageny reported. It did not provide information on whether additional deaths have been reported. As of Wednesday, the death toll stood at 73, with a fatality rate of 0.002 per cent.
