Centre's 'silence' indicates that it is planning some steps against farmers' agitation: Rakesh Tikait
BKU leader Rakesh Tikait has claimed that the Centre's "silence" for the past few days indicates that it is planning some steps against the farmers' agitation over newly enacted agriculture laws. He also stressed that it is the government that will have to come forward with a proposal for talks to resume with the protesting farmers.
Before leaving for Uttarakhand's Udham Singh Nagar on Sunday night, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader told reporters in Bijnor's Afzalgarh, "The government's silence for the past 15-20 days is indicating that something is going to happen. The government is planning some steps against the agitation."
However, Tikait said farmers will not step back till a solution is found.

PM Modi says farmers should get more avenues to sell crops
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday emphasised on farmers getting more avenues to sell crops and said a food processing revolution was needed in the country for value addition to farm produce and to realise better prices.
Addressing a webinar on effective implementation of Budget provisions regarding the Agriculture Ministry, he underlined the need for increased participation of private players in the farm sector, including in research and development (R&D) work. Without making any direct reference to the three new farm reform laws or to the three-month-old agitation by farmers, Modi said there is a need for expanding options for the country's farming community to sell agri produce.
"Today the need of the hour is that farmers of the country get more and more options to sell their produce," he said.

Centre gets more time to file report in WhatsApp privacy case
The Delhi High Court on Monday granted more time to the Centre to file the status report in a petition seeking direction for an injunction against the updated privacy policy by WhatsApp. Notably, WhatsApp had asked users to either give their consent to sharing data with Facebook or lose their accounts after February 8. The policy was, however, put on hold till May 15 due to a massive backlash by the users, IANS reported.
The petition filed by Advocate Chaitanya Rohilla has claimed that the new policy violates the Right to Privacy guaranteed under the Constitution and gives a 360-degree profile into a person's online activity without any government oversight. During the course of proceedings, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva granted the government more time and adjourned the matter to April 19. The court refused to issue notice to the respondents in the matter.
