External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said the case for a Global South-sensitive model of globalisation is becoming stronger by the day and India stands for a shift from self-centred globalisation to one that is human-centred.

Addressing the Foreign Ministers' Session at the Voice of Global South Summit, Jaishankar said the conference was conceived as a platform for developing countries to share their concerns, perspectives and priorities. India clearly sees that the key concerns of the developing world are not being captured in G20 debates and discussions, he added.

CBI searches at 12 locations linked to PSL directors in bank fraud case

The CBI on Thursday conducted searches at the premises of PSL Directors and others at 12 locations in multiple cities after registering four separate cases of alleged bank fraud totalling Rs 217 crore, officials said.

The CBI seized cash -- US Dollars 90,413 and Rs 1.99 crore -- during the searches, they said. The cases were registered on complaints from Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank, IDBI Bank Ltd and the EXIM Bank on allegations of fraud, totalling Rs 217.37 crore (approx), they said.

Demolition of Joshimath's two 'unsafe' hotels underway, evacuation continues

The process of demolishing two "unsafe" hotels in subsidence-hit Joshimath began on Thursday, two days after the exercise was stalled due to protests by their owners demanding compensation, while the evacuation of affected people to safer locations continued.

In Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah assessed the situation in Joshimath and steps taken to ameliorate people's hardship at a meeting attended by Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, R K Singh, Bhupendra Yadav and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and top officials.

AAP govt proposes four dates for MCD mayor election, sends proposal to LG

The AAP government has proposed four dates for holding the elections of MCD mayor and sent the proposal to Lt Governor V K Saxena, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Thursday.

In a tweet, Sisodia said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is functioning without a mayor for past eight months and any further delay was not good.

EU court: Tourists may get refunds over Covid-19 measures

Travellers whose package tours were ruined by the imposition of restrictions to combat the COVID-19 pandemic may be entitled to at least a partial refund, the European Union's highest court said Thursday.

The Munich court is considering the case of two people who bought a two-week package vacation for the Spanish island of Gran Canaria starting on March 13, 2020, just as the pandemic hit Europe. They are seeking a 70% reduction in the price because of restrictions that were imposed there two days later and their early return.

Delhi records light rains, minimum temperature at 9.3 deg C

Delhi witnessed light rainfall on Thursday and recorded a minimum temperature of 9.3 degrees Celsius -- two notches above the season's average -- with the weather department predicting a return of cold wave conditions in the city from January 15.

The maximum temperature in Delhi on Thursday settled at 21.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal, the India Meteorological Department said. The relative humidity at 5.30 pm was 73 per cent.

Sebi bans three entities from securities market for insider trading activities

Capital markets regulator Sebi has slapped penalties totalling Rs 15 lakh on three entities and also barred them from the securities markets for one year for flouting insider trading rules with respect to the shares of Veeram Securities Ltd (VSL).

The regulator has imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh each on entities -- Rakshit Mahendrabhai Shah HUF, Rakshit Mahendra Shah and Pinal Rakshitbhai Shah.

Delhi court to hear police plea seeking Shankar Mishra's fresh custody on Friday

A Delhi sessions court has issued a notice to Shankar Mishra, the man accused of urinating on an elderly woman co-passenger on an Air India flight, on an application filed by the Delhi Police seeking his fresh custodial interrogation.

The matter will likely be heard on Friday. Additional Sessions Judge Harjyot Singh Bhalla heard the application seeking revision of an order passed on January 7 by a metropolitan magistrate sending Mishra to 14-day judicial remand while denying police his custody.
