Metro operations on Grey Line unavailable for one hour, say officials

Delhi Metro operations on the Grey Line will not be available for an hour on Tuesday to undertake speed trials on the Dwarka-Dhansa Bus Stand section, officials said.

The Grey Line spans a little over five km between Dwarka and Dhansa Bus Stand with four stations.

"To undertake speed trials on the Dwarka-Dhansa Bus Stand section (Grey Line) for enhancement of speed and overall improvement in quality of train operations, services will not be available between Dwarka and Dhansa Bus Stand for one hour i.e, from 12:30 pm to 01:30 pm," the DMRC said in a statement.

India condemns recent intercontinental ballistic missile launch by North Korea

India has joined the US and a dozen other nations to condemn North Korea's recent intercontinental ballistic missile launch, with New Delhi voicing concern over the proliferation of nuclear and missile technologies, saying they have an "adverse impact" on peace and security in the region, including on India, the Press Trust of India reported.

India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj told the UN Security Council meeting on North Korea on Monday -- the Council met for the second time this month on the issue -- that New Delhi condemns the recent intercontinental ballistic missile launch by North Korea.

India reports 294 new Covid-19 cases, 5 deaths; active tally at 6,209

India on November 22 reported a fall of 193 in active coronavirus cases taking the count to 6,209. The country is seventy-third among the most affected countries globally by active cases. On November 22, it added 294 cases to take its total caseload to 44,669,715. And, with 5 new deaths, all reconciled by Kerala, its Covid-19 death toll reached 530,591, or 1.18 per cent of total confirmed infections.

Delhi: BJP's 11 rebel candidates suspended before upcoming MCD elections

The Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday suspended 11 candidates named in the upcoming December 4 MCD polls for six years from the party citing indiscipline.

The BJP members were suspended on the instruction of party's Delhi unit president Adesh Gupta, the IANS reported.

The decision has been taken following a meeting that was held under the chairmanship of BJP president J.P. Nadda at Delhi BJP office.

Two infiltration bids foiled in Jammu; one intruder dead, another held

Two separate infiltration bids were foiled on the International Border (IB) in Jammu on Tuesday in which one intruder was killed and another was apprehended, officials said.

In the first incident, Border Security Force (BSF) troopers noticed suspicious movement near the Jabowal post in Arnia sub-sector early Tuesday morning, sources said.

Twitter is done with layoffs, ready to hire again, says Elon Musk

After firing about two-thirds of the micro-blogging platform's 7,500 employees in only three weeks after his take over, Twitter CEO Elon Musk said that the company is done with layoffs and is hiring again, the IANS reported.

At a meeting with employees, Musk also claimed that Twitter is now actively hiring for positions in engineering and sales, reports The Verge.

He also asked the staffers to recommend potential candidates.

7.3 magnitude earthquake hits southwest of Malango in Solomon Islands

An earthquake of 7.3 magnitude has struck south-west of Malango in the Solomon Islands on Tuesday, the United States Geological Survey said. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 15.0 km at 02:03:07 (UTC) on November 22, the ANI reported.

The earthquake's epicentre was determined to be at 9.790 degrees south longitude and 159.601 degrees east longitude. However, no casualties have been reported so far. The quake comes a day after a 5.6 magnitude earthquake jolted Indonesia's main island of Java.

Delhi air quality improves to 'poor' category with overall AQI at 286

The air quality in the national capital improved from the 'Very poor' category yesterday to the 'Poor' category on Tuesday morning with an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 286, as per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

The city had recorded at 316 on Monday morning, the ANI reported.

However, the AQI around the Delhi University area remained in the 'Very poor' category today with an AQI of 326.

The quantity of PM10 in the air was recorded at 194 (medium), while PM2.5 was reported to be at 116 (poor) in the national capital, according to SAFAR.

Savarkar helped Godse find 'efficient gun' to kill Mahatma Gandhi, says Tushar Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi's great grandson Tushar Gandhi has claimed freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar had helped Nathuram Godse find an "efficient gun" to assassinate the Father of the Nation, the Press Trust of India reported.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra termed Tushar Gandhi's comments as unfounded.

In a series of tweets on Sunday, Tushar Gandhi said, "Savarkar not only helped the British, he also helped Nathuram Godse find an efficient gun to murder Bapu. Till two days before Bapu's murder (on January 30, 1948), Godse did not have a reliable weapon to carry out the murder of M K Gandhi."

PM Modi to distribute 71K appointment letters to newly-inducted recruits

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will distribute about 71,000 appointment letters to newly inducted recruits on Tuesday under Rozgar Mela.

The Prime Minister will also address these appointees through video conferencing on the occasion, the IANS reported.

"The Rozgar Mela is a step towards fulfilment of the commitment of the Prime Minister to accord highest priority to employment generation. The Rozgar Mela is expected to act as a catalyst in further employment generation and provide meaningful opportunities to the youth for their empowerment and participation in national development directly," an official said.

Farmers hit by heavy rains shouldn't be forced to pay power bills: Fadnavis

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said the state power utility has been directed not to force those farmers who had lost their crops due to excess rains in the last two months to pay bills.

Speaking to reporters here, Fadnavis said the farmers who could repay the power bills can do it.

Google Pay, PhonePe, other UPI payment apps may impose transaction limit

UPI payment apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and others may soon impose a limit on the transaction.

Soon users may not be able to make unlimited payments via UPI payment apps, the IANS reported.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which operates the UPI digital pipeline, is in discussions with the Reserve Bank about implementing its proposed December 31 deadline for limiting player volume to 30 per cent.

IIT-Delhi research reveals brain abnormalities in long Covid patients

Sapna S. Mishra, a PhD candidate at the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi, and a team of researchers have used a special type of MRI to uncover brain changes in patients up to six months after they recovered from Covid-19, the IANS reported.

MRI results showed that patients who recovered from Covid-19 had significantly higher susceptibility values in the frontal lobe and brain stem compared to healthy controls.
