Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday hoped that Mahatma Gandhi's message would "shake the conscience" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he would take a decision over the three farm laws.

Quad summit to announce major vaccine, climate change and tech initiatives: US officials

The first Quad summit of the leaders of the US, India, Australia and Japan on Friday will result in them announcing a historic agreement to expand the COVID-19 vaccine capacity and a key climate change initiative, according to senior officials involved in the major foreign policy initiative of the Biden administration.
 
Known as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, representatives for the four member nations have met periodically since its establishment in 2007.
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga will attend the virtual summit, which is the first conclave of the top leaders of the Quadrilateral alliance.
 
The four countries plan to establish a series of working groups that will focus on climate change; critical and emerging technologies, including working to set technology standards and norms and jointly developing some of the critical technologies of the future, officials said.

Latest News: CPI inflation averages 3.9% during Oct 2016-Mar 2020, says report

The RBI can pat itself for nearly achieving the inflation targeting goal with the consumer price index averaging 3.9 per cent during October 2016-March 2020, as it races to review the monetary policy framework for the first time in five years, according to a report.
 
The monetary policy committee headed by the RBI Governor is set to revise the policy framework and inflation targets by March 31 - the first review since it was tasked with a mandated inflation target of 4 per cent with a 2 per cent deviation either way in June 2016, when it adopted a flexible inflation targeting model.
 
Not only did the headline CPI inflation averaged closer to the target at 3.9 per cent during this period, inflation volatility, measured by its standard deviation, also declined to 1.4 during October 2016-March 2020 from 2.4 in 2012-16, BofA Securities said quoting the Reserve Bank of India data.

Govt developing dedicated portal for facilitation of domestic investors

The government is in the process of developing a portal - Atmanirbhar Niveshak Mitra - for hand-holding, information dissemination and facilitation of domestic investors, the commerce and industry ministry said on Friday.
 
The portal is in testing phase and the final version will be ready for launch by May 1, 2021.
 
The webpage will also be available in regional languages and mobile App in due course, the ministry said.

Legendary former India spinner Bishan Singh Bedi has been discharged after spending more than three weeks at a city hospital here following a bypass surgery.
 
The 74-year-old former India captain had undergone a bypass surgery at the capital's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital last month after he suffered a heart attack. He subsequently also underwent an operation to remove blood clotting in his brain.

Latest News: Jindal Stainless receives bourses nod for amalgamation

The Jindal Stainless group has received the nod from the bourses for the scheme of amalgamation of Jindal Stainless (Hisar) Ltd (JSHL) into Jindal Stainless Ltd, company officials said.
 
The merger will lead to a simplified capital structure, expanding the turnover of the combined business to Rs 20,000 crore, they said.
 
The officials told PTI that the merger process is likely to be completed in the second half of 2021-22.

BNP Paribas Cardif offloads 5% stake in SBI Life via open market sale

BNP Paribas Cardif on Friday sold over 5 crore shares in SBI Life Insurance for an undisclosed amount through the open market sale, bringing its shareholding to less than 1 per cent in the insurer.
 
The French insurer held a 5.20 per cent stake in SBI Life before selling a major part of its stake in the company.
 
In a disclosure to exchanges, SBI Life said the foreign promoter of the company has sold 4.99 per cent, equivalent to 5,00,03,480 equity shares on March 12, 2021, through the open market process.

UK economy shrank by less than feared in January, trade hit by Brexit
