Yogi first Uttar Pradesh CM to attend World Economic Forum meet in Davos

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath is set to travel to Davos, Switzerland, in January to attend a meeting of the World Economic Forum. He will be the first chief minister of UP to be attending the WEF meeting.

Invest UP, the state's investment promotion and facilitation agency, has been delegated the responsibility to make arrangements for the visit.

To be held between January 16 and 20, the WEF meeting will bring leaders from the government, business and civil society together to address the state of the world economy and discuss priorities for the year ahead.

Odisha receives 145 investment proposals worth Rs 7.26 trillion during biz summit

Odisha government says it has so far received 145 investment proposals worth over Rs 7.26 trillion in the current edition of the business summit.

The Naveen Patnaik government signed 21 MoUs with various companies on the second day of the 'Make In Odisha' Conclave 2022 on Thursday. JSW Group alone committed an investment of Rs 1 trillion in the state, an official said. Odisha industry secretary Hemant Sharma said the investment intents worth Rs 7,26,128.45 crore, if grounded, would create employment opportunities for over 3.20 lakh people.

Sri Lanka: Jaffna university refuses to sign MoU with China, says Beijing has hidden agenda

China and Sri Lanka's relationship appears strained as Jaffna University recently refused to sign an MoU with China's State Agricultural University.

Jaffna University vice-chancellor Sivakolundu Srisatkunarajah refused to sign the MoU, saying the pact has a "hidden agenda" and may allow China to grab fertile lands in the north and east of the region, Ceylon Today reported. 

The Sri Lankan university's students union has expressed support to the VC. In a statement on Nov 28, the students union expressed shock that a "secret arrangement was made to sign an MoU strongly supported by the Government of Sri Lanka."

UP: Case filed against SP media cell for 'derogatory' remarks against RSS

RSS has lodged a case against the media cell of the Samajwadi Party for allegedly making derogatory remarks against it on Twitter.

The case was registered after an RSS volunteer filed a complaint at Lucknow's Vibhuti Khand police station, alleging that the tweets from the SP media cell's official handle were "highly objectionable".

"Crores of swayamsevaks are associated with RSS and through the tweets a conspiracy has been hatched to disturb social and communal harmon," says Pramod Kumar Pandey, the complainant. "I lodged FIR against Samajwadi Party's media cell for posting objectionable and indecent tweets. There was mention of the alleged practice of 377 on children in the name of sports in Sangh. There must be some leaders involved and I want their arrest," he said.

MP govt to form committee for implementation of Uniform Civil Code

The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh announces it will form a committee to implement the Uniform Civil Code.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan asks why is there two personal laws in the country. "Time has come for the implementation of the common civil code in India," he says. "Why does a man marry more than once? Why are there two sets of (personal) laws in one country? I am going to form a committee."

Some other BJP-ruled states, including Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, have made similar announcements in recent months.
