Bad bank refers to a financial institution which takes over bad assets of lenders and undertakes resolution. Lenders have been making a case for setting up a bad bank to ease out pressure of bad loans on them in these difficult times.

Coal India output likely to slip 4% in Jan: PTI

Coal India's production is likely to snap a five-month growth streak to register a decline in January, said PTI quoting sources. Coal production for the month is likely to be around 60.2 million tonnes compared with the corresponding period a year ago, when the output was at 63.11 million tonnes.

V K Sasikala leaves Bengaluru hospital

Tamil Nadu politician V K Sasikala, who was expelled by the AIADMK party, left a hospital in Bengaluru Sunday morning after recovering from Covid-19. She was admitted to Victoria Hospital after serving a jail term for corruption. Sasikala, an aide of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, was taken by her family to Chennai and will under self-quarantine, PTI reported quoting unnamed sources.

Joyville says will invest around Rs 400 cr by March-end for land

Joyville, the housing business of  Shapoorji Pallonji group, plans to invest around Rs 400 crore on acquisition of 3-4 land parcels in Mumbai and Pune by the end of this fiscal to expand its presence amid recovery in demand of residential properties, a company executive told PTI. Joyville, which is a Rs 1,240 crore platform established by Shapoorji Pallonji, ADB, IFC and Actis, has so far launched six housing projects in four major cities and is now looking for new land parcels for future development.

Govt gets Rs 19,499 cr from CPSE disinvestment, buyback

The government has earned Rs 19,499 crore through disinvestment in Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) and share buyback so far in 2020-21, as against the Rs 2.10 lakh crore budget target set for the entire fiscal year ending March 31, PTI reported. With delays blamed on the coronavirus pandemic hurting strategic sales and listing of insurance behemoth LIC, the government is likely to miss the budgeted disinvestment target by a wide margin in this financial year.

NIA top probe Israel embassy blast: NDTV

The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) will probe "very low-intensity" explosion near the Israeli embassy in Delhi on Friday, NDTV reported. An official gauge of China’s manufacturing output slipped for a second month in January, while activity in the services sector slowed to the lowest reading since March, Bloomberg reporte. The official manufacturing purchasing managers’ index fell to 51.3 from 51.9 in December, according to data released Sunday by the National Bureau of Statistics.

Modi, in his previous radio speech on December 27, had asked Indians to use domestically made products to replace foreign ones as their resolution for the New Year. "I appeal to you to make a list of goods of daily-use imported articles that have unconsciously become part of our lives and made us their captive. Let us find out their Indian alternatives and resolve to use products produced by the hard work of Indians," he said then.
