Indian-American named NASA's chief technologist
NASA has named Indian-American aerospace industry expert AC Charania as its new chief technologist to serve as principal advisor on technology policy and programs at the agency's headquarters in Washington.
In his role, Charania will align NASA's agency wide technology investments with mission needs across six mission directorates and oversee technology collaboration with other federal agencies, the private sector, and external stakeholders.

Eviction drive to clear forest land underway in Assam's Lakhimpur
An eviction drive to clear 450 hectares of forest land from "illegal settlers" is underway in Assam's Lakhimpur district on Tuesday, officials said.
Out of 2,560.25 hectares of the reserved forest, only 29 hectares are currently free of any encroachment, they said. More than 500 families have been affected in the drive to clear 450 hectares of land under Pavo reserved forest, with 200 hectares being targeted in the first phase on Tuesday, a senior police officer said.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met with chief executives of leading global corporations as well as industry stakeholders here and discussed investment opportunities in India and areas to further strengthen the bilateral trade partnership with the US.

India adds 121 Covid-19 cases, one death
India logged 121 fresh coronavirus infections on Tuesday and the number of active cases came down to 2,319, according to Union health ministry data. The total number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 4.46 crore (4,46,80,215).
The death toll increased to 5,30,722 with one death reported from Delhi in the last 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am stated.

ICICI-Videocon loan case: Chanda Kochhar, husband likely to be released today
ICICI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak Kochhar, who were arrested in connection with an alleged multi-crore money laundering scam, are likely to be released from jail on Tuesday.
The Kochhars were granted interim bail in the case on Monday.
The Bombay High Court, while allowing interim relief to the former ICICI Bank CEO and MD and her husband, observed that it is incumbent upon the police not only to record reasons for arrest in writing but, even in cases, where the police choose not to arrest.

Bomb threat: Nothing suspicious found on Moscow-Goa chartered flight, says Jamnagar Airport director
The National Security Guard (NSG) found nothing suspicious onboard the Moscow-Goa chartered flight, which was diverted to Gujarat's Jamnagar after Goa ATC followed an alleged bomb threat, Jamnagar Airport director informed on Tuesday.
According to the airport director, the flight will depart from Jamnagar to Goa between 10.30 am and 11 am.
Meanwhile, security forces carried out an intensive search of the passengers onboard the Moscow-Goa chartered flight.

Bank loan fraud case: Bombay HC to hear plea of Venugopal Dhoot against 'illegal' arrest by CBI
The Bombay High Court will hear on Tuesday a petition filed by Videocon Group founder Venugopal Dhoot seeking to declare his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the ICICI-Videocon bank loan fraud case as "arbitrary and illegal" and to be released on bail.
Dhoot's plea will be heard by the same bench who on Monday granted interim bail to Dhoot's co-accused in the case - former MD and CEO of ICICI Bank Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak Kochhar.
The HC, in its judgment, came down heavily on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for making the arrest of Kochhars in a "casual and mechanical" manner and without the application of mind.

Minor technical snag, says Air Vistara after Odisha-bound flight returns to Delhi shortly after take-off
Air Vistara, whose flight from Delhi to Bhubaneswar with 140 passengers on board had to return to the national capital after a full emergency was declared following a hydraulic failure has issued an official statement citing a technical snag forced the aircraft to head back.
The UK-781 DEL-BBI returned to Delhi airport at 8:19 pm shortly after it took off on Monday evenng and all passengers are safe, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said. According to a statement issued by the airline, the aircraft had to return to IGI Airport, Delhi due to a minor technical snag which was detected shortly after take-off. The statement said that the pilots decided to return as a precautionary measure.
