853 tech firms lay off over 137,492 workers globally, more job cuts coming: Report
As more and more companies across the spectrum sack employees amid the global meltdown, at least 853 tech companies worldwide have laid off about 137,492 employees to date, and the tally is only going north amid recession fears.
According to data from layoffs.fyi, a crowdsourced database of tech layoffs, 1,388 tech companies have fired a total of 233,483 employees since the onset of Covid-19, but 2022 has been the worst for the tech sector.

Reserve Bank Deputy Governor Michael Patra on Thursday said formulating monetary policy is a challenging task in a volatile environment like the current one, given lagged data inputs, which are also frequently reviewed.
Patra said that next week, the deliberations will be starting for the next policy review to be announced in the first week of December and will have to depend on inflation data for October and growth data for July-September coming out on November 30.

Congress terms as 'corruption' Left govt decision to hike sales taxes on liquor
The Congress in Kerala on Thursday termed the Left government's decision to hike sales tax on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and forgo the five per cent Turnover Tax (ToT) levied on distilleries as "corruption" and said it could lead to increase in drug use.
The criticism comes a day after the state cabinet approved a four percent increase in the general sales tax on IMFL. Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state assembly V D Satheesan said the state government's decision was not only "unscientific", but it would also lead to an increase in liquor price which in turn could push more people towards drug consumption.
